Kaveh Afrasiabi is a prominent political scientist and prolific author of numerous books — spanning Iran, Islam, ecology, the Middle East, UN reform, as well as poetry, plays, and novels — and more than 900 articles published in international newspapers and academic journals across the world.

Afrasiabi earned his PhD in Political Science from Boston University, with a doctoral thesis titled "State and Populism in Iran", completed under the supervision of the distinguished historian Howard Zinn. He has also studied theology at the Andover-Newton Theological School and has made genuine contributions to both Islamic and Christian theologies, in writings published by Harvard University Press, Harvard Theological Review, and Cambridge University Press.

His theological writings are praised by Bishop John Chane as a "must read" in the foreword to his 2015 work, Mahdism, Shiism, and Communicative Eco-Theology. Afrasiabi has specialized in Iran's foreign and nuclear affairs and has written several highly-praised books on this subject, including in the journals, Foreign Affairs and the Middle East Journal. Afrasiabi has made numerous television appearances as an international affairs expert and is a former consultant to CBS' "60 Minutes" where he worked closely with the legendary correspondent, Mike Wallace. Afrasiabi has taught at a number of colleges and universities, including Northeastern University, Bentley University, Babson College, and Tehran University.He has done post-doctoral research at UC Berkeley, Harvard University, State University of New York at Binghamton, and Center for Strategic Research in Tehran. He is a former advisor to Iran's nuclear negotiation team and has participated in a number of US-Iran Track II Diplomacy rounds. He has served as a consultant to the United NationsProgram of "Dialogue Among Nations," for which he traveled to many countries to set up programs on Dialogue, and also interviewed former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami for the UN quarterly, UN Chronicle. Afrasiabi has been a frequent contributor to UN Chronicle, as well as to New York Times and Boston Globe.

Afrasiabi is also the founder and director of Global Interfaith Peace (GIP), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to enhancing understanding, dialogue, tolerance, and communication among the world's religions — complementing the peacemaking activities of the United Nations through faith-based engagement.
